Welcome to The Last Homely Garden! so many people have asked me to post more videos about my garden and all the things that I am growing and working on. So here it is! Seeds, growing, planting trees, Eileen my goose, bees and so much more.
I couldn't do all I do without the help of Adam and Arran from Heritage Country Gardening, my energy and strength are simply not what they used to be so I am really grateful, not just for their brawn, but their imagination too!
Please enjoy your visits here. If you subscribe, remember to press the notification bell because I won't be posting to a regular schedule, just when there is something to tell you!

The Green Roof Supplies arrived! Watch as the layers are installed! #15
Ant had time to fit the green roof for the cabin this week and, as usual, I got under his feet!
The four layers are
1. The plastic protection for the Cabin Roof
2. The drainage layer
3. The growing medium
4. The sedum plants which are held together with a coir matting.
I got these items from The Green Roof Company thegreenroofcompany.co.uk/products/categories/systems/
when the sedums arrived and we rolled them out, I was a little suprised by how unhappy they looked, but after a few days they have perked up and are now enjoying being on the roof. I guess I'd look a bit unwell if I'd gone through what they had in transport!
Do check out Ant's channel - Ant's Country Life - where he shares his day to day life and the work he does. He's very interesting.
That is the last big job for the Cabin, though there are still a lot of plans for the Garden, so pop on your notifications as I don't post to a schedule, just when I have something to say!
Enjoy this episode and I'l see you in the Garden soon!

The CABIN gets some wonderful LARCH CLADDING! #12
Переглядів 44 тис.2 місяці тому
The Larch boards have arrived for my cabin. Ant spent a few days making my cabin look absolutely amazing! It was transformed from an ordinary looking building into the most beautiful little place. I use it everyday at first light, I take a cuppa down there and listen to the birds and do a bit of crochet. It's hard to think of a good enough reason to leave! I am grateful to Anthony White for his...

Welcome to The Last Homely GARDEN! Ant is back from his holidays and ready to put the windows in the cabin! I also made a tweed curtain for the composting toilet. The inside of the cabin is my next focus, but for now I am celebrating being able to see out onto the pond! Find Ants instagram here ants_countrylife and if you would like to see the many things he does in his working l...
Feeding the BIRDS in The Last Homely Garden #10
Переглядів 77 тис.5 місяців тому
There is not much gardening or cabin building going on just now as the ground is frozen and my fingers and toes are too! So it is important to keep the little birds well fed and happy. I feed Sunflower Hearts, Mixed Seed, Cracked Peanuts, Niger Seeds, and that mix I made with Peanut Butter. The visitors include Blue Tit, Goldfinch, Robin, Blackbird and Thrush, Woodpecker, Greenfinch, Long Taile...
Progress on my CABIN by the Pond and a QUILT! #9
Переглядів 71 тис.6 місяців тому
Here is an update on my Cabin project, a bit of a disjointed video as I was pretty unwell for most of November so I was unable to film the rapid progress that Ant was making despite the awful weather, rain, cold, wind ..... nothing seems to daunt him. You can find him on Instagram as Ants_countrylife - pop over there and say hi! In this video you can spot the moment when I should have taken to ...
Building by my POND, the next phase. And much more MUD! #8
Переглядів 37 тис.7 місяців тому
Welcome back to The Last Homely Garden! I've been working with Ant again and my gardening friends Adam and Arran. Ant got some help from Ali, so all my helpers names being with A. What are the chances! I left you last time with a Ant making a little sitting area beside the pond. Ant and I always knew there was going to be a CABIN! Here is the start of that structure, with so much rain holding t...
Kate's Pond Update, how to deal with all the MUD! #7
Переглядів 38 тис.8 місяців тому
In the last video (#6) I left the pond filling with water. Water continues to be the feature of this video too as there is so much MUD around the area which makes for very unsafe walking. This was the only long term solution, so watch as Anthony, hindered as usual by me, start to make a wooden walkway around one side of the pond, supervised as always by my goose Eileen. If you missed the video ...
The Last Homely Garden gets a POND! Digging, lining, filling ... making a WILDLIFE POND #6
Переглядів 50 тис.9 місяців тому
I am so excited to share this video with you! I have been thinking about this project for YEARS! Finally, everything came together and in less than a week my good friend Anth, with a little hinderance from me, transformed a wet, muddy patch of ground into a magnificent Wildlife Pond. This is Part ONE and you will see the pond being created to the point of starting to fill it with water in a ver...
Tomato Harvest and a quick outdoor CHUTNEY #5
Переглядів 20 тис.9 місяців тому
Welcome back to The Last Homely Garden. Here is a little video all about the chutney I made on Sunday. The tomatoes are ripe in the poly tunnel, the herbs are plentiful in my herb bed. I used the outdoor cooker to finish off this delicious sticky chutney and could hardly wait for it to cool before I tried it with some cheese and crackers. I found the recipe on the River Cottage Website here www...
Building a Brick Cooker in my Garden. The food tastes AMAZING! #4
Переглядів 49 тис.10 місяців тому
I've finally been able to finish this video! Anthony White, my neighbour and friend built the Brick Cooker a few weeks ago, but the rain here has been relentless, and I have been away for my other channel The Last Homely House so finally, yesterday, I was able to go round the garden pick all the vegetables that were ready and make an amazing plate of food! The potatoes are a variety called Pink...

Weeds too! In this video I'll show you the work that my Garden Team were doing in the pouring rain in my Front Woods. We have a long term plan for this area. Can you give us the link to Ant’s UA-cam channel?
I thoroughly enjoyed your video! Life is good!❤
You and Ant are so funny together! 😂😂😂. What a fab project - it’s going to be amazing. Looking forward to seeing the progress and thanks for the video - loved it as always. Sounds like your having the same weather as our Winter - freezing nights and 12 degree days! Do hope it warms up for you. Hugs to you both Meredithe 🤗🤗🇦🇺
Thank you for sharing your green roof. This has been totally new for me. I wonder if in a future video you could tell us more about Eileen. How did she come to be with you. How long has she been at your place. Do you get other geese. Thanks again❤
I love Ant. His videos are so relaxing and enjoyable. What a wonderful friend and neighbor.
Great job, Ant! It’s lovely Kate❤
I love how Eileen hangs out with you guys as you work! I think she thinks all of this is just for her. What a treasure you and Ant have made in this sweet cabin. I agree....Ant can do anything and with such a great personality!
Amazing!
have never seen this done wow tell him get his own show as well lol
Kate did you think about putting a staircase to the roof and a little landing so you can go up easily to maintain?
😂 All this time, when you kept mentioning the green roof, I thought you meant a green metal roof! 🤣 As long as you don’t have to mow it! 🙃 You have to tell us how you’re getting it filmed from up above! Inquiring minds want to know! 😝
THIS IS AMAZING!!! Love the idea of little spring flowers but didn't think of the tree seedlings. Oh boy! Believe thou a set of steps will be in order for you to get there. Just a lovely view.
That roof is going to look great when it all grows in. You are very lucky to have a wonderful neighbor who is so handy at just about everything. Once again I learned something new on your channel. Have a wonderful week
Eileen the guard goose!
happy growing and quiilting
🌿wonderful!
Rely enjoyed following the proces of this project. It looks stunning. Wishing you a lovely Sunday. ❤️
😮 wonderful!
We have had a very cool wet summer so far, too, in north central British Columbia. Maybe there’s warmer weather to come? At least it’s been a slow forest fire season!!
It will be great to see how the roof blooms into the summer months! Glad Eileen was on hand to make sure you two were doing your jobs!
What kind of sedum are you planting? I recently planted one called dragon's blood ( I have a bit of a dragon fixation, and considering I recently found out I have Welsh ancestry, it fits)
❤❤❤
Well done Ant and Kate! The green roof is beautiful!
Hello from Georgia in the US. Well, Kate, this was too exciting. I can't wait to see how it grows. What a marvel Ant is. Thank you so much for sharing; take care.
This green roof is lovely! This entire cabin/pond build has been very amazing. Love it! Do you think you will ever plant irises in your pond?
That is an interesting roof but will you have to climb up there all the time to maintain it? Or will you have gardeners on hand for that chore? Can't wait to see progress.
Very nice work. Such a blessing. Beautiful place.
I can just hear what Eileen is saying to Ant..... "you made this wonderful pond for ME, and now you are doing something that might interfere with it" !
Gosh, Kate! I live in Perth, Western Australia and the temperatures you're getting at midsummer are cooler than what we're getting at midwinter! Amazing! I hope you get some sunshine soon. ☀️💙
And today I learned on a random video how to make a quilted green roof, must be TLHG!!! 😂😂😂. Next you’ll need a deck chair up on the roof garden, nice for a spot of iced tea and a view! ❤
Kate, is it permitted to ask where you are located, i.e., England, Australia, New Zealand, etc? Not specifically, just generally?
I live in the north of England - a beautiful county called Northumberland! Xxx
@@TheLastHomelyGarden-xw7tw 😀
This is fabulous! I'm building a new pallet cabin shed in my garden this autumn/winter and I want to put a green roof on it so thank you so much for this as I'm learning such a lot! Looking forward to watching yours grow and imagining you stitching under its lovely carpet! Xx
😮 That is fantastic!!!! Love it❤
Love the cabin. I need an Ant
What a wonderful conclusion to your beautiful cabin it has been an absolute joy to watch it evolve
Lovely idea for the roof. I just hope you can at least see it from your bedroom windows. Disappointed you are having such a chilly spring. Wish we could send some of our 35+C heat over to you. Entirely too early to have these temperatures , and we need rain. Glad to see you and Ant working together, great friendship and companionship. Have you made a quilt for him and his wife? XO
Oh that was so interesting to see how the layers on the roof will work, and to keep the cabin well insulated too. Such a perfect retreat and look forward to seeing more another time. Well done to Anthony who always makes things look so easy, but that’s a sign of a true professional at work. 😊
Hope your over your cold soon Kate. So nice to see a friend like Ant helping you see your vision come true. Planting succulents that grow long and hang off the edge of the roof.. that would look beautiful. ❤❤❤
Ants knowledge is amazing!
Dreams do come true .. I’m happy for you Kate . I wish you many happy days in your wonderful cabin ❤
Your summer weather is probably good for planting the green roof. You would not want to be doing it here in PA this summer we are having 90° F plus temps . Yesterday it was 94°. The grass is getting like straw. A green roof wouldn’t stay green very long here. Hope your project is a great success.
I love what you have done in and on your cabin. I can't wait to see it when it takes off. ❤
That will be absolutely beautiful!
I have my own craft cabin in the garden . I just love my own space and it’s good for the soul . My happy place , so lucky I don’t take it for granted .
Next project pink and green deck chairs for the porch!
I cant wait to see how it comes along.
It is an amazing roof. 🇬🇧
At first, I imagined a painted green metal roof when Kate said a 'green roof'. What a nice surprise to see the living roof! Some creeping Jenny with their pretty yellow flowers and snow in summer would be pretty as they cascade over the edge of the roof. And Ant is an amazing helper!
I did also... i thought " why is she so excited about a green roof"!
What a beautiful exciting project! Thanks so much for sharing
Same as here in Montana it’s been very cold but thankful for the rain, but would love some heat too
